Yusei Kurogane (Japanese: 遊星 黒鉄 Yusei Kurogane) is a high-ranking ninja and a covert operative long associated with the secretive shinobi networks that operate beyond the public authority of the bakufu in Final Fantasy XIV.Known among informants and underworld contacts as the "Shadow of Hingashi", he is regarded as one of the most capable ninja to emerge from the eastern shinobi orders in recent years. Though rarely appearing in official records, Yusei's name circulates quietly within intelligence circles where his missions are often tied to sensitive political conflicts, assassinations, and the suppression of threats to Hingan stability.Currently, he works at a funeral parlor.

Yusei is a male Miqo'te with spiky hair and a delicate boyish appearance with deep blue eyes and bangs. His physique is lean but well-toned, suggesting extensive physical training despite his relatively narrow frame. He possesses sharp facial features, and a generally composed demeanor that often gives him a distant or contemplative expression. Like most Miqo'te, Yusei has prominent feline ears that rise from his hair, matching its deep black color.During his time in Danse Macabre, Yusei adopts a darker, more regal aesthetic. He wears a fitted black jacket layered over a deep blue vest secured with gold clasps. The jacket features reinforced shoulders and subtle ornamental stitching, combining practicality with a refined, almost aristocratic style.When dressed in his shinobi attire, Yusei's appearance becomes more concealed. History

Early Life

Little is publicly known about Yusei's childhood. What is generally accepted is that Yusei was orphaned at a very young age after his parents were killed during an incident tied to covert conflicts in the eastern territories. The details of the event remain unclear, and most surviving records are fragmented or obscured by the shinobi networks that later raised him.He was later discovered by a veteran and brought Yusei into the clan's hidden compound and raised him among other orphaned or abandoned children who were being trained as future shinobi. Though the clan rarely adopted outsiders, the decision was reportedly made out of a mixture of obligation and recognition of the boy's unusual potential.From an early age Yusei was subjected to the rigorous training expected of shinobi apprentices such as long hours of physical conditioning, stealth exercises, weapons drills, and lessons in strategy and deception. The environment was unforgiving, and failure was often met with severe reprimand, punishment or isolation meant to test the resolve of young recruits. Despite this, Yusei adapted quickly, displaying a natural aptitude for observation and patience that set him apart from the others.During this difficult upbringing, however, Yusei occasionally found brief moments of escape beyond the compound. Not far from the clan's territory lived a modest family of parasol makers that had quietly become familiar with the young Miqo'te over the years. Whenever he managed to slip away from training or patrols, Yusei would sometimes be invited and share meals or simple conversations. In what he would later recall as some of his darkest and most painful years, that faint bond with the Kasanui family became a quiet source of hope. The knowledge that there existed a place where he was seen not as a tool or apprentice, but simply as a person shapes the quiet resolve and guarded compassion that would later define the shinobi he became.

Hingashi Saga

By the time Yusei reached adulthood, he had already proven himself far beyond the expectations placed upon most shinobi apprentices. Years of relentless training and field assignments hardened him into a lethal operative. Initially deployed for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, Yusei soon completed several high-risk operations that elevated his reputation within the clan and demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for infiltration and assassinations.During these years he spent considerable time outside of Hingashi to gain firsthand experience with the wider world. His travels eventually brought him to Eorzea where he briefly crossed paths with members of the Rogues' Guild, mercenaries, spies, and underworld figures across the realm.In recognition of his accomplishments and unwavering loyalty to his duties, Yusei was eventually granted the title "Shadow of Hingashi."

Danse Macabre Saga

Some time later, Yusei receives a message from Hikari where she requested him to accompany her back to Hingashi. Later, she regaled him of her tales in the Parlor. Remembering the kindness she once showed him many summers ago, Yusei decides it is time to repay the favor she bestowed him and stayed close to her by joining the organization.
